Carving of St Peter

Description
This sculpture shows St Peter as a bishop raising his right hand in a blessing. It was probably originally part of an important religious building. It was rediscovered in 2004 in a garden in Dowlish Wake where it was being used as a grave marker for a cat. Acquired with assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the ACE/V&A Purchase Grant Fund (www.vam.ac.uk/purchasegrantfund), the Art Fund, the Fairfield Trust and the Friends of the Museum of Somerset.
