Description
Telescope used by William Sparke during Battle of Sedgemoor 1685. From the top of Chedzoy church tower he used it to watch the Kingês army gathering at Westonzoyland. Sparke sent a farm worker to tell the Duke of Monmouth that the Royalist camp was poorly defended. As a result Monmouth decided
that a surprise attack by night could succeed.
