Description
This painting depicts the Siege of Jellalabad, an important battle that took place in the First Afghan War (1838-1842). The soldiers wearing red tunics are members of the 13th Light Infantry, the regiment that would later become the Somerset Light Infantry. On 5 April 1842 the garrison at Jellalabad left the city walls and successfully captured 500 sheep and cattle.
